How many coloured belts are there?

In total there are 6 coloured belts and 9 degrees of black belt. In between each of the coloured belts there is a contrasting stripe, i.e. white belt/white belt yellow stripe etc. The sequence and meanings of belts is as follows:

alt  WHITE

The beginning student who has no previous knowledge of Taekwon-Do.

alt  YELLOWalt

Signifies earth, from which a plant sprouts and takes root as the Taekwon-Do foundation is being laid.

alt  GREEN

Signifies the plants growth as Taekwon-Do skills begin to develop.

alt  BLUE

Signifies the heaven towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Taekwon-Do progresses.

alt  RED

Signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control, whilst warning the opponent to stay away.

alt  BLACK

Signifies maturity and proficiency in Taekwon-Do. It also indicates the wearers imperviousness to darkness and fear.

For young juniors we have two special belts to start their Taekwon-Do career.
